Ivory Coast Marks Independence Day

On August 7, 1960, Ivory Coast declared independence from France after 76 years of colonial rule. With a population of 27 million people and more than 60 ethnic groups, this country is well-known on the African continent. Around 1.2 million Côte d’Ivoirians living abroad visit their families and friends frequently.

The day of independence holds a special place in the hearts of the Ivorians. Many people recall the dark days of being influenced by others and fighting for independence from foreign rule. Many people died in the quest for independence and the establishment of a new country on the global map.

What is Ivory Coast famous for?

Cote d’Ivoire is the world’s largest producer of cocoa, a commodity used in chocolate production. Every chocolate bar sold worldwide contains 10% Ivorian cocoa.

Ivorians celebrate Independence Day in various ways.

In 2022, Côte d’Ivoire will celebrate its 62nd anniversary of independence. The country commemorates this event in a variety of ways, including

  • Independence Day has been declared a public holiday.
  • The day begins with military parades.
  • Cultural and social gatherings
  • Live performances will take place across the country in a variety of venues.
  • Family and friend gatherings
  • Enjoy the roadside music and dances.

Remit Choice wishes the Ivorians a very happy Independence Day. It must be a fantastic day for all residents of Côte d’Ivoire, both inside and outside the country. Due to unforeseen circumstances, Ivorians living abroad will be unable to celebrate Ivory Coast’s independence day at home.

If you are unable to attend, you can still share in the joy by sending gifts to family and friends back home. If you need to send money to Ivory Coast quickly, Remit Choice can help.
